People need food education, not just nutrition

Nutrition is about the the study of food and how our bodies should use food as fuel for growth and daily activity.
Everything you need to know about nutrition;
1. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
2. Eat less meat, sugar, dairy, coffee and alcohol.
3. Don’t eat chemicals or processed junk food
4. Drink water
I seriously think  that’s all you need to know, It all comes down to those four simple principles
The most important thing you need to know about nutrition for the 21st century is the types of foods you should eat daily.
The Dietary Guidelines emphasize nutrient-dense foods that include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Eating and drinking nutrient-dense foods and beverages can help you lower your risk of chronic diseases and conditions, such as heart disease, high cholesterol, cancer, stroke, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, asthma and Alzheimer's.
Maintain a healthy weight by increasing your physical activity to expend calories in balance with the calories you consume from food. Smaller portion sizes can lower your caloric intake.
The meals and snacks a family eats during the day should provide:
  • a combination of different foods.
  • enough of each nutrient to satisfy the energy and nutrient needs of each family member.
  • several groups of foods at each meal;
  • different vegetables and fruits at different meals because different vegetables and fruits contain varying amounts of the different micro-nutrients;
  • meat, poultry, and fish daily if possible because these foods are the best sources of iron and zinc (which are often lacking in diets, especially the diets of young children and women).
 Snacks are foods eaten between meals.

You are not alone if you don't always choose the foods that are best for you. Familiarizing yourself with some basic nutrition know-how may help you make more healthful choices.

Your body uses nutrients to build your body structures and fuel their functions. Each nutrient has specific jobs; no nutrient can completely "cover" for any of the others. There are six major types of nutrients: proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. In simple terms, nutrients are the chemicals your body gets from digested food.

FIND out the basics of nutrition in my book "The Matter of Life" Available to buy from health/book shops.
