Erasing time from your appearance is BIG business--from age-defying face creams and makeup to Botox to facelifts, liposuction and tummy tucks, and everything in between.There's nothing wrong with wanting to preserve a more youthful look.But the problem is, many people are unknowingly making mistakes day in and day out that ADD YEARS on to their appearance instead of taking it off.And all the face creams in the world won't change that.So if you want to do all you can to help prevent time from taking its toll on YOU, read on to see if you are guilty of any of the...

Overdoing desserts or consuming lots of sugar in general (including soda, sports drinks and lattes) not only pack the pounds on your backside, but it can also make you look very old...FAST.You see, the breakdown of sugars (a process called glycation), damages the collagen that keeps your skin smooth and firm.So you're just asking for wrinkles.

Anytime you either drastically cut calories, eliminate food groups from your diet, rely on "meal replacement" products or any of the other diet fads, you most assuredly cause nutritional imbalances in your body.And not only does that NOT result in weight Ioss and keeping it off, but it also makes you look OLDER!For example, calorie restriction can deprive your body of certain nutrients that promote healthy cell division and regeneration and help maintain overall skin tone and texture.Plus, a diet that's too low in fat can lead to dry, leathery skin, hair loss, and brittle nails (in addition to poor memory and brain function, which definitely can make you appear older!).

Our bodies are alkaline by design and we need to take in enough alkaline foods like fresh fruits and vegetables to maintain that crucial, slightly alkaline pH.When your body becomes a bit too acidic, it leaches your supply of alkaline minerals (including calcium, potassium and magnesium) to neutralize the acid. These minerals are what helps your body to have strong, healthy bones, teeth and hair.So, without those vital minerals, you could be looking at brittle bones, fractures, osteoporosis, weak muscles and rotting teeth.Talk about adding decades onto your decades!Plus ALL of your organ systems are their healthiest in an alkaline environment...and that includes your largest organ--your skin.

Studies have supported that green and black teas contain certain protective compounds that help prevent skin cancers and the breakdown of collagen, which is the cause of wrinkles.Next time you reach for a cup of coffee, opt for tea instead -- green tea is an especially good choice.

Many people are under the mistaken impression that organic meats and dairy are just more expensive and don't really make a difference.Well, that's not exactly true.According to research , the hormones in traditionally produced dairy, poultry and meat may contribute to acne and skin problems.Research says  patients who either eat meats and dairy less frequently, or at least choose grain-fed beef and poultry and organic dairy, often notice their skin looks better.
