Massage Therapy

“Most individuals are dealing with some kind of postural stress"  More often than not [that stress] tends to manifest in the shoulders and neck.” But desk workers, beware. More advanced forms of postural stress show up as pain or weakness in the low back and gluteals caused by prolonged periods of sitting. Massage increases and improves circulation.

I initially went to Kay about 5 years ago due to an injury in my shoulder. I can not speak highly enough about the care and advice Kay gave me, and after a few sessions she had my shoulder back to full strength. I still go to Kay when ever I am home (I live abroad) because I have never experienced anyone that can literally make you feel as light as a feather after a session.

An absolute Miracle worker. Gifted.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping by Kay McDonnell

What Is Cupping Therapy?

By warming the air within the cup, a vacuum is created, and when it is applied to the skin, the tissue is drawn up into the cup. This increases the blood flow, loosens the fascia or connective tissue, and is thought to stimulate healing.

It is similar to the way deep tissue massage can be used to break up scar tissue and reduce pain. The cups are often placed on the back, neck, and shoulders or the site of pain.I find cupping may cause temporary bruising and soreness, depending upon the degree of suction created by the vacuum and the level of internal stagnation.

Cupping Therapy for

the digestive system

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.

Cupping Therapy externally manipulates the digestive system and reproductive organs. It works the small and large intestines, stomach, colon and reproductive organs.

Cupping Therapy for the digestive system is a great way to stay regular as well as assist in detoxification of the body.

Cupping of the of the abdomen may improve digestion by increasing the flow of digestive juices and absorption of nutrients.

It is also believed to stimulate the digestive process by regulating movement of the organs involved in digestion. Dysentery, diarrhea and gastritis are conditions treated by applying cups to the belly button area.

Cupping may also provide pain relief and improve breathing.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). I use it for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back and shoulders, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.  Deep tissue massage techniques are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt.

Deep tissue massage may not be safe for people with blood clots (e.g. thrombophlebitis or deep vein thrombosis), due to the risk that they may become dislodged. If you have blood clots or are at risk of forming blood clots, it's essential that you consult your doctor first.

If you have blood clots or are at risk of forming blood clots, it's essential that you consult your doctor before getting a deep tissue massage.circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

Relaxation Massage

A smooth, gentle, flowing style that promotes general relaxation, relieves muscular tension, plus improves circulation and range of movement.

The aim will be to relax, revive and rejuvenate you at a massage depth that does not cause discomfort.

While relaxation massage is wonderful for you, it is less effective than the deeper styles for changing soft tissue tension. I normally recommend deeper styles when you are suffering pain and leave relaxation for when you just want to.

Deep Abdominal Sacral Massage

We're all familiar with feelings of unease in our stomachs when under stress or experiencing negative emotions. Even on the most basic level, stomach massage can help relieve some of these uncomfortable symptoms but below we'll examine a handful of the other surprising health benefits abdominal massages can provide . The most obvious benefit of stomach massage is that it can aid digestion. Gentle pressure applied in clockwise circular motions helps get everything moving.

Abdominal Sacral Massage is a holistic and non-invasive therapeutic treatment.  It involves a slow, deep external treatment of the abdomen, lower back and sacrum to soften muscles, help free and align congested organs and therefore, open up blockages to the flow of blood, lymph, and nerve pathways.

When your body builds up toxins and gas around the muscles and ligaments of the lower body, an abdominal sacral massage can relieve the symptoms of irregular periods, bloating, constipation, ovulation problems, poly cystic ovaries, endometriosis, lower back pain and fibroids to name just a few.  I use deep tissue, pressure points and rebozo techniques on the abdomen and sacral area to create releases and that aims to encourage re-positioning of the internal organs.  This may take more than one treatment.

Kay Says...

Abdominal sacral massage can give a stressed digestive system the reboot it needs and help with weight loss.  It is a known fact that the food that your body struggles to digest can actually stay in the colon for months or even years.  Abdominal sacral massage:

  • Stimulates the abdominal organs and helps to keep everything moving smoothly
  • Increases blood circulation in the abdominal region thus improving absorption of nutrients from the food we intake
  • Improves sluggish digestive system, which relieve flatulence (gas) and improve bowel movement; relieves constipation and reduce the need for long-term laxative medicine
  • Helps heal indigestion, nausea, vomiting and the adverse effects of overeating

Old adhesion's from invasive procedures to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean delivery are lessened when abdominal massage techniques are applied and hopefully they can be reduced in time.

When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connection. Having an abdominal sacral massage helps to restore the natural balance of the body in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs, not only for healthy digestion but also for fertility and restore natural rhythm of the menstrual cycle.

It flushes out toxins, restores nutrients that help balance hormones to normal order. This is essential for healthy pregnancy, labor and delivery.

I use my hands combined with Dry cupping for deep abdominal massage.

What conditions does cupping treat?

Cupping is traditionally used to treat lung disorders like

  • cough
  • bronchial congestion, and
  • Asthma
  • Tense and tight muscles
  • digestive complaints, and constipation
  • pain.

.Everybody is different and responds to cupping differently.
